I've got some good news and some bad news. On the good news front, I received my federal tax refund today. It was direct deposited into my bank account. Yeah! That's an extra $542 to put towards law school.
As for the bad news, one of my best friends (and former roommate) lost her job yesterday in NYC. She e-mailed me this morning. She's in total shock. I'm trying to be there for her as best I can (given that we don't live near each other). It's definitely a scary time out there. I'm glad that my job is pretty secure.

Good luck to your friend. I've been trying to help out my unemployed friends by helping them network with others. Glad to hear you're saving your refund towards law school. Good job!

Make sure your friend is talking to family too. I know so many that keep their troubles to themselves and it only makes matters worse. This is exactly the time you need your family most - maybe financially like with a free meal, but mostly for emotional support and encouragement. Family is our foundation to build upon.
I'm sure your a great friend for her!
