Book Review: "You're Broke Because You Want To Be"

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by the office of Larry Winget, the money guru of "Big Spender", asking if I would be interested in reviewing his new book on my blog. For those that read my blog regularly, you know I write posts about his show, so I thought it'd be fun to read his book.

Just before I left for Christmas break, I received the book and read it. It's about 200 pages long and has a series of worksheets to go along with the book. One of the coolest parts of the book was within the first pages, he had some quotes from people he had previously helped out on his show. This included Jewel, Greg and Sue, and Nick and Becca.

The title of the book is "You're Broke Because You Want to Be". He says this because there is a difference between being poor and being broke. If you're broke, you're either overspending or underearning. When you watch his show or just talk to anyone having financial issues, they always say they want to change. But Larry says that it's your actions that matter...if your actions contradict your words, then your words are meaningless.

The book is very much like his show...a no-nonsense, tell it like it is book. He even delves into his own experience where he made millions, lost millions, filed bankruptcy, and then built his way back up. Just like any book dealing with personal finances, it's important for the readers to feel like they can connect and having someone who has been through what they are going through is key.
